ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE WINNERS OF OYAK MATHS CONTEST IN 7TH YEAR

The Maths Contest that has been held in the last 7 years in the cities where the OYAK Group Affiliates are is organised spontaneously in 17 cities on November 15, 2008.
In the city winner ceremony that was held in Tekirdağ on January 5, 2008 Tekirdağ High School became the champion of the city.  

Schools that share the first three titles;

Tekirdağ Milli Piyango (National Lottery) Science High School
Tekirdağ Zonguldak Atatürk Anatolian High School

The contest that has been sponsored by 12 OYAK Affiliates has been organised in the following 17 cities this year: Adana, Balıkesir, Batman, Bolu, Düzce, Hatay, Kahramanmaraş, Kırıkkale, Manisa, Mardin, Ordu, Rize, Sakarya, Sivas, Şanlıurfa, Tekirdağ and Zonguldak. In these cities, the following companies hosted the organisation: Adana Cement, Bolu Cement, Ünye Cement, Mardin Cement, OYAK Concrete, Renault MAIS, Erdemir, Isdemir, Ermaden, Erbor, Hektaş and Tukaş.
 
During the last 7 years, 7856 students from 1968 schools have taken part in the contest and there were 1964 contestants from 492 schools who took part in the First Phase Examination, which was held on Saturday, November 15, 2008.
 
Chess sets were given to each student who took part in the contest, 15,000 TL of monetary grant to each participating school, a republic gold coin the students, teachers and schoolmasters of city winners and plaques to the student, teacher and schoolmaster of city winners.

In April 2009, winner teams of 17 cities and their families will be hosted in Istanbul and they shall visit the historical and cultural beauties of the city, the esteemed universities and meet the graduates of these universities. Various gifts shall be granted to the school and the team members that shall win the final examination in April in the honour of the contest.  

The main targets of the Maths Contest among High Schools that was first initiated in 2003 with the participation of 107 schools from 5 cities under the motto, "Life is Mathematics" are defined as:

  • To place analytic thinking and solution practice to the agenda of the Turkish human
  • Promote the youth who find maths interesting
  • To inoculate the love of maths
  • To display the tie of maths with life
  • Let people taste the sense of success and victory
  • Improve personal internal discipline
  • To open doors to different worlds.

Thus, every effort has been spent to designate that Mathematics is;

  • A universal language,
  • A common tool of human thinking,
  • Both science and art
  • Provides the chance for the human to reason such as analysis, synthesis and comprehension,
  • An aid that helps the individuals to be determined, organised and systematic,
  • An auxiliary that helps improve mind and talent.
